Whether you are new in the city and totally unaware of its rich culture or you have been living here since ages and you still haven’t got the opportunity to explore your city and its history, then, Heritage Walk is a MUST for you.
This Heritage walk gives you a glimpse of its glorious history, tradition and living architecture. The walk across the city is organized by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation every morning starting from Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur to the magnificent Jama Masjid.
The Heritage Walk is a two hour journey across the city towards the discovery of its tradition, history, wonderful indo-islamic architecture, rich textile heritage, delicately designed places of worship, wooden carved houses of pol and so much more.
The Heritage Walk is conducted not only in the mornings but every night at 10 p.m. starting from Mangal Das ni Haveli upto Manek Chowk. The morning tour starts from 8 a.m. after a slideshow at Swaminarayan Temple and moves forward towards Lambeshwarni Pol, to the bronze statue of Shri Dalpatram Kavi and then moving ahead to The Calico Mills designed by Gautam Sarabhai.
The walk continues to the Kala Ramji Temple, where you will find a unique dark idol of Lord Ram and moves to the pols of Ahmedabad. The old city of Ahmedabad was made up of around 360 pols within a fortified compound and therefore they are of the great significance to the city.
The walk then moves through Doshiwadani Pol, Zaveri Vad to Chaumukhjini Pol that have ornate temples with fascinating wood carvings camouflaged under plain exteriors giving you the Mughal feel.
The symbolic walk continues through the historical Fernandez Bridge passing through Rani-no-Haziro, Badshah-no-Haziro and Chandla Ol that now sells ethnic Indian wear and junk jewellery. The walk then takes you through Manek Chowk and ends at Juni Jama Masjid, the city’s oldest mosque.
