Can you imagine ant construction swaying? An astonishing example of such a construction built in 1452 exists in the Ahmedabad city. Situated on Kalupur Road, Sidi Bashir Mosque has minarets that shake and hence are called Jhulta Minara or shaking minarets.
The minarets are three storied and are build in a way that if some force is applied at the top, the minarets start swaying. Even if one minaret is shaken, even the other one starts shaking. The minarets are 21.34 meters high. A flat terrace serves as bridge to connect the two minarets.
The mechanism behind such a construction is still a mystery however it should be noted that the minarets are built using stones and not any other flexible material. There have been attempts to demolish these minarets by British people during their reign but the construction still stands at its position.
There is even another mystery related to this site that is about the actual builder. It is named behind favourite slave of sultan Ahmed Shah I but it is claimed by few people that Malik Sarang was the master mind behind the architecture.
Entry to the upper sections has been prohibited since the incident (that took place 15 years back) of death of children at Qutub Minar, Delhi. There are some damages now on the upper sections of the minars.
The architecture however still holds its beauty and uniqueness. While visiting Ahmedabad, one must visit the site that is an excellent showcase of ancient talent.
