The name of the particular area always has a reason or history behind it and so is for Sarkhej. Sarkhej was well known for its Sufi culture in the country as much respected Sufi saint Ganj Baksh resided here. Sarkhej roza is an example of an early Islamic architectural culture of the region.
Sultan Qutubuddin Ahmed completed building Sarkhej Roza in 1458A.D, located in Makarba village, near the city of Ahmedabad. The architecture of this roza is unlike other mosques in Gujarat as it's divided into palaces, burials and mausoleums. It's a blend of both Hindu and Islamic architectural cultures.
The committees of Sarkhej Roza have been holding for Sufi concerts by eminent Sufi singers of the country. Also with the cultural programmes, the mosque is known for its unique Hindu Bhajans and Sufi music on the auspicious evening of Janmashtami.
During 20th century, the architecture of Sarkhej Roza has been known as 'Ahmedabad Acropolis' compared to Le Corbusier’s 'Acropolis of Athens'
